I have been teaching a total of nine years. I began my career teaching kindergarten for 1.5 years in Maryland. I then taught behaviorally disturbed middle school students at a private institution in Baltimore. Upon moving to North Carolina, I began teaching second grade at a public elementary school that I have now been at since 1998. In the years at this title one school, I have taught first grade, second grade, and third grade. I also have four children at home that I work with, especially in reading, writing, and math.

Our children today need to be encouraged and given the opportunity to develop. Some students aren't able to get the attention they need in a classroom setting with all of the other students. All they may need is one on one time to help explain the concept in a way they understand. I'm a very "hands on" tutor and like developing fun, creative ways for the students to learn. My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.
