A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping students of all ages learn. Education lays the groundwork for every goal that one aspires to in life. I love the English language and words. I feel that it is important for every student to come away with at least a basic understanding of how to write and speak. It will only help later in life. I love science because I have always asked 'how things work'. I am patient and enthusiastic. My energy and love of knowledge is contagious. A Little Bit About Me...

While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. I also taught 8th grade physical science in Prince George Virgina.
In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.

Through teaching at UNH and at Hartwick, I have developed a cogent teaching strategy. First, incorporation of everyday examples is critical for students. When students are shown how concepts discussed in class can be applied to everyday situations, they become more curious and gain better understanding of the material. Second, another of my teaching strategies is to emphasize comprehension of concepts instead of memorization. I caution students against memorizing equations for every individual condition or system. A third goal is to foster an atmosphere of approachability so that students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help both inside and outside of class.

I have always wanted students to really know the material being covered. This has meant keeping their interest through jovial yet concentrated lesson planning.
