I am a 2012 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Chemistry and concentration in Biochemistry. I have worked as a TA for the sophomore Principles of Biology (II) course as well as the Organic Chemistry Laboratory Course. I have been a tutor & academic mentor for Organic Chemistry since the summer of 2010. Additionally, I was an MCAT tutor & problem solving group leader for my University's MCAT course during the 2011-2012 year. I scored a 37R on the MCAT (PS - 14, BS - 12, V - 11) and a 2260 on the SAT ( Math 770, Verbal 730, Writing 760). I initially started tutoring because of my love for the subjects, and as I worked I understood that one has to be able to cater to different approaches to understanding various topics.

A Little Bit About Me...

This is my 5th year teaching high school Chemistry and Introduction to Physics to grades 9th-12th. Most of the students I teach are in the 9th grade. I have been at the same school for my entire small teaching career. I absolutely love educating and get the most satisfaction when I see students light bulbs come on!
I beleive students learn the best by having their ending in mind first. I like for my students to understand the purposefulness of work and how it will help them reach their goal. I also believe that differentiating instruction is a must; children need their learning style catered to for the most effective learning results!

I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.
I am a recent graduate of kennesaw State University, with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. The large workload of my college education has given me the skills necessary to multi-task and quickly learn and deliver results demanded in the current marketplace. I feel confident that I could share this skill set with students so that they too can achieve their dreams. I am very patient and will work with any student at any level. I think that practical examples and analogies are imperative for learning higher theoretical concepts. I believe that any student, with the will to succeed, can achieve any dream. It is my desire and hope to take part in at least a small part of a student's success in achieving his or her dream.

First I would like to get to know the student and parents, focusing mainly on the student's interests and goals as well as how they feel about the particular subject they will be tutored in. After that I would have the student show me where they currently are in class and what they need help with. Then, depending on the particular circumstances, I would create a plan to get the student caught up and self-sufficient as quickly as possible. Even though fast results are what I hope for, the student would set the pace of the sessions. No topics would be overlooked and they would all receive as much time as the student needs to master them.
I attended MTSU and received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. After college I worked at a food-microbiology lab in Nashville for a year. I plan to teach science in Africa with the Peace Corps for two years. I am very capable in most areas of math and ... read more

My teaching style is prescriptive, student based. I teach based on how the particular student can grasp and understand what is being taught because students have their own methods and mental tools to open themselves to what is being taught, so that they learn. I, the teacher, learn from the student how he/she understands what is being taught and fit the subject into a student's frame for understanding.

I enjoy tutoring and showing people different approaches to a problem. I understand that not all students learn the same way and it's important to show them how an answer can be reached in many different ways. I am always willing to let the student show me his/her approach and correct them accordingly. I am patient and understanding and always thorough.
As a Georgia Tech graduate, I've always enjoyed challenging myself to learn new things and to take different approaches. I am currently working on a Masters degree in Business Administration while working full-time as a Mechanical Engineer at a local Chattanooga company. While in college, I was a teaching assistant for the Thermal-Fluid Science class. More recently at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I have taught the Physics I lab.

I love educating all children in order to achieve their long term life goals. I am patient, friendly and easy to get along with. I can make learning enjoyable and more easy.
