The public educational system has provided me with multiple opportunities to expand my knowledge and understanding of the academic process and the challenges students meet. I have been a substitute teacher, para-professional, art teacher, after-school director, speech language aide, and vision aide throughout my early career. The love of children and education was the impetus for pursuing my Early Education Degree. During the last three years I have been in the upper elementary and middle school classroom.

During my years as an undergraduate English major, I was drawn to the world of teaching and tutoring through two part-time positions, including one on-campus, with college-aged students, and one with elementary to high school-aged students. I loved seeing my students' pleasure at learning how to comprehend the words they read, to assimilate that information into an in-depth college essay, to finally grasp that one bit of knowledge that so alluded them. I taught students with learning and behavioral disabilities, and was good at my job (and loved it). As a writing center consultant, I was instructed not to spend much time proofreading student papers or reviewing small minutiae. Instead, my goal was to educate students about the fundamentals of writing papers, such as formulating a clear thesis and establishing a clear paragraph structure.
