For me, meaning is at the heart of what it means to be a teacher. If what I am teaching means nothing to my students, then I can expect them to retain very little. Yet, if I can make learning dynamic, interesting, engaging, interactive, and fun, then learning—powerful learning--can happen. In addition, I believe students must create their own knowledge of a subject, learn through discovery, and question until they find answers on their own. I am ever the optimistic and idealist, seeking the best in all my students and believing in them no matter what their limitations are. Throughout the learning process, I believe expectations should remain high, laughs should be shared, and connections should be made. I am confident that I can touch the lives of my students by uniting meaningful teaching, a constructivist approach to learning, an unwavering positive attitude, and a comfortable wo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love seeing people understand something once I explain it to them in a way that they can understand it. I also love working with kids and teenagers because I believe that if we have a positive influence on young people they will grow up to be the leaders that our nation needs. My teaching style is geared at making people think. Students don't learn when they are spoon fed their education but when they are lead in the correct direction.
I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT. Scores were high above the national average for math and at about the average for the written portion. I do have experience in writing research papers and laboratory reports, all in the fie ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have always been an avid reader and writer, as well as a natural teacher. As early as middle school, I was tutoring my fellow classmates at the request of their parents. I studied Latin for five years, which provided an exceptional foundation for the study of English, which I pursued as my major at Loyola University. I concentrated in Creative Writing, so the bulk of my college work consisted of reading and writing to very exacting standards. I graduated Summa Cum Laude, maintaining a 4.0 major GPA for my entire four years. I have since worked as an SAT Instructor for the Princeton Review and have also tutored privately and given music lessons for supplementary income.
I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what as ... read more
