I attended Columbia University in New York City, graduating in three years with my BA in English. There, my passion for books and writing reached new heights--and, I realized I wanted to share my passion with others through teaching and tutoring. Columbia's core curriculum also gave me the chance to pursue other academic interests, such as calculus, chemistry, social psychology, music and art humanities, and Eastern cultures. I attained my secondary teaching certification last December and gained valuable experience working with students in the classroom as a mentor and student teacher. I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT. Scores were high above the national average for math and at about the average for the written portion. I do have experience in writing research papers and laboratory reports, all in the field of civil engineering. I have always been an avid reader and writer, as well as a natural teacher. As early as middle school, I was tutoring my fellow classmates at the request of their parents. I studied Latin for five years, which provided an exceptional foundation for the study of English, which I pursued as my major at Loyola University. I concentrated in Creative Writing, so the bulk of my college work consisted of reading and writing to very exacting standards.
