Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. More than just rote memory and recall, I want then to be able to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems or create new ideas based on their previous learning.
I have worked in both the public and private school settings and have 20 years teaching experience. I have always wanted to teach Math and Science. I have volunteered tutored on and off for five years for friends and family. I have a BS in Chemistry and have worked as a Chemist for 13 years. I currently am working as an accountant. I enjoy formulas and showing my students how everything comes togeher. Most people find Math frustrating and I enjoy showing them a different way to approach problems. A Little Bit About Me...

My first teaching experience was as a high school senior where I was given the opportunity to teach a small group of 5th graders as part of the Missouri A+ program. We began with division, quickly moving into linear and nonlinear algebra, before touching on the fundamentals of complex numbers, graph theory and trigonometry, before concluding with a derivation of the quadratic formula and its applications. I spent three semesters as the academic chair for my fraternity enforcing study hours for fraternity brothers with lower GPA’s; tutoring students in algebra, calculus, physics, and computer science, among other fields. I have also had five years of experience in Latin up to the college level with one year of Japanese.

Excellence in teaching, I believe, depends less on method and more on the character of the teacher. Since a student is a human being before he or she assumes the role of the learner, it is incumbent upon the teacher to respect the individual, and likewise earn his or her respect, first, well before considering the more technical pedagogical aspects. Along these lines, the teacher must be as good of a listener, must be able to pay the strictest kind of attention to the student, as he or she is an instructor. Intuition and patience are essential. It is only when the educator is able to establish this sort of environment that the teaching/learning exchange can take place.
