I graduated from Princeton University with a BA (cum laude) in History and will be starting a Ph.D. program in History in the fall. I served as a tutor at the middle school level during my college years and have worked with High School students on History, English and ACT/SAT prep for the past year.I have also served in various other academically-related positions, including as a research assistant and library assistant.
I like to nurture my students without enabling them. I tend to ask my students pointed questions about the subject at hand to inspire critical thinking and push them to arrive at their own interpretation of the correct answer. I feel that this best prepares them for college-level work.

I really enjoy tutoring. I love watching the students gain confidence as we work through the problems. I believe my attitude and approach to teaching helps the students. I provide enough understanding to the students but still challenge them. The worst thing you can do, is just give the answers. Excellence in teaching, I believe, depends less on method and more on the character of the teacher. Since a student is a human being before he or she assumes the role of the learner, it is incumbent upon the teacher to respect the individual, and likewise earn his or her respect, first, well before considering the more technical pedagogical aspects. Along these lines, the teacher must be as good of a listener, must be able to pay the strictest kind of attention to the student, as he or she is an instructor. Intuition and patience are essential.
