A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is gentle but firm. I believe anyone can learn, given the proper structure and encouragement. Confidence is critical in learning, and that is what I always try to instill, through gentle but firm instruction and the ongoing development of a student's feelings of personal responsibility for learning.
I have a BA in Political Science/English (1965), and have always loved reading good books and studying history and government. I also have an MBA (1975), and my working career of 40 years has included 25 years in developing Accounting Systems (multiple firms), Telephone Network Systems (Consultant and Senior Systems Engineer at AT&T for 15 years), and Accounting Operations (most recently Controller for a service firm with annual revenues of $15 Million. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to educate children of many ages I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old in the house. You teach many different aspects of life, not just academically. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. Substitute teaching grades K-8 was rather different because the children acted as though they haven't learned anything, so you had to make them feel comfortable. I love teaching with repetition and visual. With patience, understanding, and love a child can learn anything.
I am a well round person; strong in geography and Latin American history. I have always wanted students to really know the material being covered. This has meant keeping their interest through jovial yet concentrated lesson planning. I have always strived to make my students feel comfortable and to take on the responsibility for their own learning. Much too often Educators show students how to answer questions rather than helping the student learn how to handle new scenarios. This is the essence of my teaching: helping students see the big picture so that they can handle any new scenario.
