New college graduate with teaching experience

I have 1.5 years of volunteer experience in teaching adult literacy. In this experience I have taught the alphabet, study/homework skills, basic consonant and vowel sounds, rules to the English language, and reading and writing. I am a firm believer that the best way to learn varies from subject to subject. When I taught math my view was that the best way to teach was to break everything down into a step by step process and have the students memorize the process. I recently graduated from Ohio University with a BS in English Education in March of 2010. My last day of student teaching, I received an offer to teach at a Career and Technical school for a long-term Language Arts position for ten weeks. I taught six different eleventh and twelfth grade classes with two preps. I tell the student to think of a tree. in the seconds you think of a tree, you don't think of just the tree. you think of the roots, the trunk, the limbs, the branches, the leaves. then you think of whats going on in the tree, right down to the point of the tree taking in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen and water.
