I can teach in a less formal manner, I can prepare someone heading to Italy who needs a crash course in "street" Italian, and prepare one's expectations. every student is different; as far as languages are concerned i believe people benefit more from actually speaking and listening, instead of learning a whole bunch of grammatical rules. those will come in time and a lot more naturally once you are confident with the words and their meaning.
I have tutored many different kids and a few adults in english and italian, always with great success. i have also worked as a nanny and babysitter, which has trained me to be a very patient teacher and quickly understand students different ways of learning and comprehension. i enjoy helping others become more confident with a new language!

My comments on tutoring Italian : Native speaker

I hold a Ph.D. in mathematics and a master in physics. I have been Assistant Professor at Columbia for the past four years. I have taught calculus 1 through 4 and Analysis 1/2 many times. My main area of expertise is Algebraic Geometry but I also have some experience in functional analysis and quantum mechanics.
I try to teach my students how to derive advanced formulas and results from basic ideas, instead of relying on rote memorization. According to my experience, students who memorize math results without understanding, do not actually retain information; the kind of learning that I offer is much more permanent.
