Give Real life experience a try

Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.
Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.

More About This Tutor...

Hello, my name is Lauren and I absolutely love tutoring! I have tutored since I was in high school (about 5 years of experience total)and more recently have worked as a Peer Tutor at Westminster College, as well as teaching private voice and piano lessons. As a biology major, I'm most experienced in science and math related areas, particularly general biology, general chemistry, statistics, algebra, and geometry. I am also very qualified to tutor ACT and SAT test prep, as I scored extremely high in all areas of the two tests, earning a 34 on the ACT and a 2190 on the SAT. I'm also qualified to tutor in several humanities areas, especially writing-a skill strongly emphasized by Westminster's intensive and selective Honors Program. I have also taken AP tests in English Literature (5), Human Geography (5), European History (4), and American History (4) and IB tests in English (6) an ... read more

My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I know chemistry, but I have only taken the general college chemistry courses.

I am a College Student working towards getting a Secondary Education Teaching degree in Biology and Chemistry. I want to eventually go on and teach at the University level. I am planning on going to the University of Utah and want to get a doctorates in Biology or Biochemistry. I have spent two years in the great land of Russia. I love the country and all the people. For the most part I am a smart cookie. I love life and try to learn as much as I can while I can.
Fun but serious.

I think that I can teach what I really know, and Mathematics are the topic that I know the best, so with that in mind I am able to share my knowledge to anybody, since I am confident with the topics I understand, adding to this the fact that I like to teach something that I have done since I was in elementary school with my close friends and after to teach to adults in school for adults.

I have a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. I enjoy teaching and I have worked as a substitute teacher for two years. I am also fluent in portuguese and I have taught english to non-native people. I have several years of laboratory experience which I believe enables me to teach children real world examples of how science works. I believe this also can prepare them to think analytically.
I enjoy teaching and I have taught all grades and various subjects during my time as a substitute teacher. I think it is important for students to ask questions. This is important for them to be able to learn effectively. I think science is important for students to be able to learn how to think analytically and to develop a curiosity of the world around them.

A Little Bit About Me...

While a Biological Sciences major at Brigham Young University Idaho I took several different math courses that were above and beyond those required for my degree. I excelled at each of the classes that I took, and was actually recruited by my calculus teacher to become a statistics and calculus tutor at the university math lab. I worked for 4 consecutive semester there teaching everything up to, and including, Calculus 2 and statistics 2.
My teaching style is actually very fluid and relates specifically to the people that I am currently teaching. Every person learns differently, as such, a wide range of teaching styles is required to teach a wide range of people. As a tutor, I was able to develop my teaching skills in a wide range of areas (including: analogies, step/progression, fundamental-based teaching and increasingly narrowed focus) that have helped me teach many different pe ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Math and science have been a passion of mine for a long time now. The two most common complaints I have heard about mathematics is “I am just not good at math” and “you don‘t use it in real life”. It is the responsibility of the teacher to understand how the student learns and how to cater to their learning style. I am very patient and know how to explain the same concept in SEVERAL different ways so that I, the tutor, can communicate the “idea” to you, the student, in the correct learning style that is NECESSARY to your understanding of the subject. I have yet to run out of ways of explaining a subject to ANY of the students I have tutored before hearing that “ooh!” sound.
I have been a serious student of math and physics now for the past three and a half years. I am in my senior year at the University of Utah (U) where I am finishing up degrees in mathematics and physics. I am cu ... read more

More About This Tutor...

In college I had the opportunity to work as a peer tutor and also as a tutor for high school students through the Upward Bound program. I did this via face to face as well as through phone tutoring. Upon graduating I was lucky enough to get a full time job with the Upward Bound program and continued to tutor as well as train tutors. Seven years ago I had the opportunity to enter the teaching arena and have enjoyed a wide array of subjects.
A teacher should treat their students as consumers. As consumers those students need to have their needs and expectations met. Every student learns differently and expects the instructor to be the expert in the subject matter. Being that expert the instructor should have and show a passion for the subject that makes the students want to know more. Each student is a valuable member of the class and as such has valuable experience and opinions that ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the basis of learning is understanding the principles of the subject. If a student has a thorough knowledge of the basics, then he does not need to rely on root memorization or luck to pass classes. I believe teaching and learning the basics are far easier than simply attempting to pass a test or earn a decent grade. All subjects in the end build upon each other, a strong foundation helps not only with the current class, but with all future classes as well. Also, everyone has the ability to do well, and should be afraid of classes or subjects that are traditionally seen as dificult.
Academics and higher education are very much a driving force in my life. I enjoy learning new skills and learning about new subjects, also sharing that knowledge with others. I earned my first Bachelor's degree in Linguistics in 2006, and went on to teach English as a Second Languag ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my MS in geophysics I went to work in the oil business. I found this to be morally troubling and turned to teaching as a way to give back to the community. To my delight I have found that I love to teach, I connect well with kids and they seem to enjoy my teaching style. I have been teaching for eight years and I look forward to many more.
My teaching style is relaxed and friendly. If the student doesn't like working with me, then the effort is for naught. Once I build a rapport with the student, I try to impress on them the crucial nature of the subject, without being overbearing. Finally, we delve into the material, celebrating success and ferreting out the problems that may confound us.

I have a very solid math background, so I know what concepts students should be learning at their age/level. Therefore, if the students don't have material prepared that they would like to study with me, I can quickly compose exercises for them to do. I ask a lot of questions and try to get the students to figure out the solutions themselves. When they get stuck I give subtle hints until the light bulb goes off. I often explain a concept and then have students watch me solve a problem, then have them do one themselves. I also like to briefly (and sometimes more in depth) explain the big picture so they understand some applications of the math they're doing.
I graduated from the University of Utah with a double-major in math (with an emphasis in statistics) and economics, and a minor in international studies. This fall I will begin a master’s program in International Comparative Edu ... read more
