I want my students to be in charge of their learning, not me. I often ask a student “leading questions” instead of just giving them the answer. I also consider the audience when I am teaching. I ask myself...Are they familiar with our customs or not? Do they know our idioms or not?

I believe in starting each session with an example or review which allows the student to connect the task at hand with their prior homework/knowledge/experiences/interests, etc. To do this it is imperative to conduct an interest and needs assessment (mostly informally) at the beginning, and along the way, in order for me to be the best facilitator. Next, I ask critical thinking questions for each task at hand, and give choices of possible answers if needed. I give daily assignments for accountability, if the student needs to finish assignments on their own time. I am very sensitive to feelings, patient in interaction, and adept at using active listening skills.

Some children need explicit instruction and other children need to create their own meaning from academic information. I knew I loved teaching since I was a young child. I actively started tutoring different age groups in 2004. I have worked with different kids from K-8th. I will be receiving my B.S. in Family and Human Development in May, 2009. I am already in the MEd program and started taking graduate classes in Spring, 2009. I will be completing 10 credit hours of gradute courses in May, 2009 and I will be receiving my MEd in Elementary Education in Summer 2010. A Little Bit About Me...

My style of teaching depends upon the child's way of learning. In my role as a Montessori teacher I typically presented lessons to the child in way that would best suite their approach to learning. For example, if that particular child was a more hands on type learner I would make materials or present the lesson in a manner to include something that he or she could manipulate.
