A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching strategy can be summed up in two words: encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe that once I have given a student the tools to succeed, he or she can do so - with enough encouragement. My students at Indiana University have all noted on their course evaluations that my encouraging and positive attitude has helped them improve their reading and writing skills. I also believe that in a tutor, enthusiasm for the subject matter is key. I am incredibly enthusiastic about reading, writing, and grammar, among other things; I know that I pass this enthusiasm on to my students. Once students are enthusiastic about a subject area, they are much more likely to work hard and succeed in that subject. My main goal as a tutor is to make sure that students are excited and confident about the subject, so that once they have the skills to succeed, they can do so.
