My teaching strategy can be summed up in two words: encouragement and enthusiasm. I believe that once I have given a student the tools to succeed, he or she can do so - with enough encouragement. My students at Indiana University have all noted on their course evaluations that my encouraging and positive attitude has helped them improve their reading and writing skills. I also believe that in a tutor, enthusiasm for the subject matter is key. I am incredibly enthusiastic about reading, writing, and grammar, among other things; I know that I pass this enthusiasm on to my students. Once students are enthusiastic about a subject area, they are much more likely to work hard and succeed in that subject. I have always been driven to excel by my passion for learning and sharing what I know. At Cornell University, I earned my BA in Classics in 3.5 years, completing the requirements for both the Latin and Ancient Greek majors independently. I also explored related topics like: History, Linguistics, Near Eastern Studies, Philosophy, Reception Studies, English, French and German. My broad-based skills set provides me with a unique grasp of the Humanities, especially reading and writing skills. For the last four years I have designed and presented courses on Leadership and Organizational Development for my Fraternity at regional conventions, along with volunteering to help other students with writing and foreign language work in school.
