In addition to tutoring children and helping those I babysat with homework, I also taught horseback riding lessons to young children for three years. I have a very laid back and encouraging style of teaching and am patient in my endeavors. My hope is to give my students the confidence to try and succeed beyond their own expectations. I recently obtained my BS in Marketing along with a minor in Animal Science from Iowa State University. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and working with all ages of students. I recognize the value of individual instruction and the positive impact that it has on students. I believe that the best teaching involves collaboration between the student and teacher and always strive to provide opportunities for students to produce knowledge and solutions, instead of passively receiving them. I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. The student should be working hard, but enjoying him or herself in the process, and this is when the most efficient and effective learning occurs. I work to impart certain values in the students I serve, including: fortitude, imagination and pride. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science.
