Reflecting back on the years when I attended high school, I struggled with math. Once I was accepted to NC A&T, I realized that I had developed a fear of math and did not understand basic algebraic concepts. After being assigned a peer tutor as a freshman, I overcame my fear of math. Due to his mentoring I was successful at conquering math concepts and performed well in all other academic courses. I successfully completed my degree in 1993 graduating with honors. This success has inspired me to teach and tutor math. I am committed to teaching and tutoring students. I would be glad to work with students of all ages, but I prefer to work with a student individually rather than work with students in a group. From both my experience of being an informal tutor and being tutored, I find that students general prefer this style of tutoring because the tutor can both focus and better access their student's strengths and weaknesses in the particular academic subject they are having difficulty with. I have informally tutored people of various age ranges in the subjects, physics and math , for a period that ranges over about three years . I have taught younger relatives as well as helped people informally on online tutoring message boards with math and physics problems. I have also been paid to assist students in how to operate the basic commands of computational mathematical software for three years as well.

Teaching to me is a vocation and not just a job. I enjoy helping children achieve their peek potential in the subject matter at hand. During my education program through the University of South Florida I had to complete 3 internships withing the Sarasota County School System. During my 1st internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom at Garden Elementary School in Venice, FL. In this internship I spent my time working with small groups in the classroom during their reading block as well as working with students one-on-one. During my 2nd internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom at Cranberry Elementary in North Port, FL.
