I enjoy helping children discover new areas, encouraging them to move way from the trite and trivial to new and daring concepts in their research. Often a trivial fact that they never knew will open the doors to opportunities they never envisioned. During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. Some learn better by seeing an example and then working it out on their own with someone to consult if they get stuck. Other learn better with what they hear and others what they read. I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions,group activities, etc.) so students stay interested and because every student learns differently.
