My comments on tutoring Creative Arts : I minored in Theater. I'm also a stand-up comedian, writer, drummer, guitarist, and vocalist.

I always liked playing up my quirky personality. My favorite teachers and professors were the goofy ones, the ones who can relate to the students' fun side. These teachers also challenged me the most, and I ended up getting so much more out of the course. I figure that, if a student likes the teacher, he or she will pay more attention and have a deeper respect for the teacher. The teacher then can use this trust to push the student a little more, intellectually. I find that is what works best for me.
I don't any paid, professional tutoring experience. However, I have volunteered my services to family members and friends. During my sophomore year, I took Organic Chemistry and excelled. However, my friends were struggling. They hated me a bit for how easy it came to me. I decided to tutor them and help them with homework assignments and studying. They ended up doing very well on the ... read more

I believe in guiding a student towards an answer through experience, rather than telling them the answer. This means going out and doing something to help them better understand the subject or doing research to find out more.
I am a recent graduate from Indiana University who has a passion for art, history, and film. I spent most of my college career teaching at IU Outdoor Adventures, Indiana University's outdoor recreation program. There, I gained the skills to instruct on rock climbing and backpacking. I believe that the teaching style I learned there pertains to teaching any subject. A teacher should guide the student to the answer, rather than giving it to them in an easy answer. I also worked as a Naturecrafts staff member at Camp Barney Medintz in Cleveland, GA. At CBM, I taught kids ages 8 to 16 outdoor skills and guided backpacking trips. Working there taught me how to best ... read more

I can impart the love of design, what greater gift is there?

I'm an easy going teacher, software and design requires patience in both the student and teacher. It is a show and tell, where you will be explaining yourself repeatedly. I feel the best teachers, show the student what they expect, and have the student both verbally and by demonstration show they understand the processes. If they can't verbally walk me through it, it hasn't sunk in and they won't be able to repeat the lesson when I'm not around. I don't want that, I'm paid to make sure that isn't the case.

Art & Design are not about software but skills

I was taught by professionals, the teachers I had were drill sergants installing skills through repetition. I work much the same way. The lessons I create are going to repeat form and function, proportion, typography and layout, pre production planning as well as the subject matter. You have to learn to walk before you get to the Olympics. This helps refresh people looking for that, and instilling the skills and understanding of the time it will take you to get to where you want with your skills. A computer is a tool, like a pencil nothing more, it won't make you a great artist, unless you have the foundation(s). In the 'working' world... Design isn’t about software or computers, it’s about visual communication. Every project has a set of goals that it seeks to accomplish. These goals might include anything from persuading someone to buy a candy bar to organizing a large amount of ... read more

Creative Arts is one of my top subjects! I enjoy working with children and young adults to experience the creative process. I am certified in the creative arts and like to explore expression using different artistic mediums.

I am individually based and able to change my teaching style to best fit the students needs.
I worked for an organization called AS220. It is an arts organization with a youth program that works inside the juvenile detention facility and also has a community program for youth in group homes and recently released from prison. My first position was incorporated art into the curriculum of classrooms in the juvenile detention facility to enhance the learning experience of the students by making it hands-on. My end position was as Managing Director. During that time, I studied and implemented art programs to teach job readiness skills and finding innovative ways for learning to take place. Since that time, I have spent the last 3 years as an events manager on a cruise ship, seeing places all over the world. I have also co-lead a 2 1/2 week canoe trip with 6 teenagers. My diverse life ex ... read more

Creative Arts is one of my top subjects!

I am a Cancer, so for those of you who follow western Astrology, feel free to assume many of those typical characteristics you might have read about are true, in my case--I am patient, caring, understanding and sympathetic. I have a knack for making my students feel comfortable and at ease, thus bringing out the best of their creative and imaginative side.
I have been an artist all my life. One of my earliest memories is of drawing in pre-K and beginning what was to become my beloved marker collection. The very day I became old enough, I asked to be enrolled into Houston's esteemed Glassell School of Art, where I later became a teacher in my adult life. There was never any question i would go to art school for college, and I have been a working artist ever since. I have co-founded my own art space, built my own website, managed my own art consulting business, and I presently run my ... read more
