After a short time in industry, I returned to school to pursue my MS in Chemistry at the University of Hawaii. At the University of Hawaii, I had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for four years and tutor undergraduate students in all aspects of chemistry. After 12 successful years as a pharmaceutical chemist, I began taking classes at Pace University and recently I have finished my requirements for graduation in August when I expect to receive my NYS Initial Certification in Chemistry 7-12. Through college I worked with many students in Organic Chemistry. The first thing I teach students is preparation. Many students have a tendency to put off studying until the night before an exam. Organic Chemistry is one of the first classes where student needs to develop a study schedule. Second I emphasize the fundamental concepts. The content is too much to memorize and students become overwhelmed. Third I teach attitude. There is a point when students realize their potential. The point where "this class is too hard" turns into not being afraid of a challenge.
As an undergraduate student I was preparing for a career in Forensic Science. I have 14 years laboratory experience including 3 years at IBM's Material Analysis Lab. Besides coursework I have experience in writing lab reports and designing experiments. I have made a career out of science.
