American History is one of my top subjects!

Passionate, interactive, and Efficient. My philosophy for teaching is simple. There are two kinds of students: Those who are willing to word hard and make sacrafices to be an excellent student and those who simply won't be good students. I offer no shortcuts or cheat sheets. Dedication is paramount to not only academic success, but personal success as well. I accept any and all challenges.

A Little Bit About Me...

Every student is unique and has different ways of doing things. In a swimming pool, you can see physical improvements in technique which ultimately improves performance. In teaching, it is different. It is sometimes very difficult to see the "light bulb" go on when a student finally grasps a new concept. I take different approaches in different situation to help students achieve results.

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching in a hands on style in which the student not only has an algorithm of how to solve a specific problem, but has a thorough understanding of the concepts behind the algorithm. I enjoy having analogies or hands-on activities to demonstrate the concepts. I believe that many times people understand the basic concepts from physics in their daily life, but are frightened by equations. Using analogies or hands-on examples initially reinforces their knowledge and increases their confidence which decreases the fear of equations. Besides reduces fear, it improves their ability to share complex concepts with others in simpler terms.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was an exceptionally driven high school student, taking the most difficult schedule my small private school would offer. My course work included AP calculus and AP US government, on both exams I received good marks. In college I studied a wide variety of classes in pursuit of a degree in the liberal arts. My main foci were history, foreign languages and English literature and grammar while maintaining a love for the sciences and mathematics. I have spent the last two years teaching English as a second language in China. My time there was spent teaching the oral skills and tutoring in reading and writing.
As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student disco ... read more

I consider myself a problem solver and I feel as though I possess an innate ability to quickly diagnose an individual's learning disabilities or weaknesses and therefore transform my teaching style to match the person's specific needs. As a lifelong lover of literature and writing, I have taught students from fifth grade through junior level college literature and writing courses. My MA and PhD degrees have only further accelerated my desire to continue publishing academically in peer reviewed journals. These writing skills have led to my tutoring and editing the work of high school students and adults pursuing publications in other fields, such as business and the medical professions. Additionally, my certification in Alternative Education has enabled me to participate in the pursuit of achieving excellence in writing among urban youth, regardless of age or prior experience.
