I love teaching because I myself am an avid learner. I have a passion for the subjects I teach and hope that I can instill this same passion in those I teach. I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding. During the completion of my BMA, I accepted a tutoring position and tutored all students (including disabled students) for two years. I eventually moved on to substituting for professors and even gained an assistant to the professor position, which included developing and teaching lesson plans. I have excellent communication skills with students and the ability to determine effective ways to help each student learn in their unique way. Although I have done mainly music tutoring, I am extremely confident in mathematics, sciences, and english. I have the ability to work with diverse students of all ages and levels.
