A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that my teaching style is very hands on and easy to follow. I have the ability of simplifying statistical and mathematical procedures into easier, more understandable terms. I am very patient and this allows me to better adapt to a child's specific learning needs and education level. My best teachers were the one's that made me feel comfortable asking questions and admitting when I do not fully understand a concept. I hope to apply this teaching style to my own in order to make my pupils feel the same way.
In 2009 I graduated with a BS in Statistics from Virginia Tech. I also received a minor in Business. My method of teaching varies with the subject. A spanish tutor and a chemistry tutor can go about things quite differently. I like leading students to find answers on their own so that they understand the paths they are taking. That method is especially helpful in hard sciences and math. In the liberal arts (poli-sci, literature, religion, philosophy, etc.) I like to work in the Socratic method. I'll challenge the students on topics and concepts with questions that need some thought. I want them to discuss issues with me, and that allows me to help expand their understanding and discover weak points in their knowledge.
