My teaching style has and is one of hands on. I never was keen on lecturing but used an interactive style to my approach. By actually doing problems, I found that students could grasp concepts better. Teaching and coaching always made me feel good that I help someone in their life in an area that they may be having difficulty with. As a graduate of Penn State, I strived to excel in Accounting and the new field of I/T. As an undergraduate, I was honored by performing an internship with then Arthur Andersen. As a graduate student, I became a teaching assistant and coached several students and well as conducted actual classroom programs. Later on in my career, I was a part-time instructor and coach at Franklin and Marshall College. Later on in life, I tutored many of my subordinates helping to better understand finance, economics, and I/T. Thus helping them up the corporate ladder.

When you figure out the motivational and emotional needs of a child, teaching becomes easier but still a challenge. When a student can grasp the basics/core of a subject and really absorb this beginning information, we can move forward using their abilities of discovery regarding the subject. While interning at Gainesville High School I learned that understanding teen-agers was the key to teaching. Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way. I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I earned my BS in Education degree in 1970 but chose to enter the field of law enforcement. I remained the the field of law enforcement for 10 years and then began teaching. The skills and experiences in law enforcement have given be a strong base to draw upon for teaching Civics and History. I taught American history and American Government four years at John I Leonard HS in Lake Worth, FL.. I have tutored homebound students at their home and libraries. My teaching methods have always strived to expect more from students so they may have a better chance of excelling with their efforts.
