Effective, caring tutoring from an experienced tutor

I have been tutoring in math since I was in Jr High. Initially my students were sisters and brothers, then nephews and nieces, and finally I began tutoring as a second career. My background includes 30 years as an engineer and engineering manager, as well as teaching math at the community college level and volunteering as an adult literacy tutor. I love applying math to real world problems, and I do my best to come up with pertinent examples to help a student learn a new concept.
I summarize my approach to tutoring with "3 E's": Enthusiasm, Engagement, and Encouragement. I try hard to make each session fun and to engage the student in seeking the solution, rather than just teaching him or her a method.

Poor college kid trying to make a living

I’m good with kids, high school and below I can break it down easily, I have good study habits, and I like to encourage people to better themselves educationally. My best subjects are in high school is math and chemistry. And I could teach anything middle school and below. I am a digital media student so I am also good with computers.

I taught secondary mathematics for 35 years, with 28 years experience teaching AP Calculus. I've also worked for the College Board, 'reading' AP Calculus Examination results. I also have 29 years experience teaching undergraduate mathematics part time, mostly for the University of Maryland European Division and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. I have very strong math skills, especially in Algebra, which is what my daughter is learning now. I excelled in grammar, art, health, and science as well. I was a teacher at a private school for a year after college before I started a family and began home schooling. My daughter is now in the 8th grade and tests at the college level in reading and high school levels at most other subjects.
I have a daughter in the 8th grade and a son in the 6th. I have home schooled them the past 9 years. They have very different learning styles which has helped me to learn to teach in different ways to accommodate their needs. I am patient and easy going and I love helping kids.
