Hello, my name is John Hett and I am passionate about teaching children and adults how to read. I am a "Highly Effective" Michigan certified teacher in the area of Learning Disabilities, Secondary English, and Secondary Social Studies. I prefer to work with students who are dyslexic or have a language processing problem. I currently teach high school English with a focus on writing. I have 22 years experience using the Orton-Gillingham Method. I use materials from the Wilson Reading System due to ease and cost. Parents must purchase these materials prior to instruction. I teach with 100% fluency in mind. My preferred time in after school two or three days per week. Teaching your child to read is a long commitment. The program can range from 18 to 24 months. I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual. Educators must fit the program to the child, not fit the child to the program.
