A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child has their own special style of learning in which they succeed the best at. When I tutor students I take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis and as a unique person. I make it a priority to determine their learning style and use that to implement a plan. I try and understand the reason they are having problems in their studies and then execute a plan in which they can succeed. I create study guides, review questions, and sample test questions for the students as well. In addition, a tutor can be a positive role model in student's lives and serve as a mentor and can be a person who the students can count on to answer questions.

The philosophy behind my teaching is to let the student guide their learning by relating information to their lives and interests so that it comes to life for them. Every student has the ability to do well if their learning is valuable to them. It is my goal to help students discover a passion for learning and work myself out of a job as they begin to take hold of their own education.
Beginning as a student working towards my TEFL certificate, I volunteered at Somali Adult Literacy Training and organization which teaches English to Somalis in the Twin Cities. I continued volunteering with the same organization for 3 years. I have worked with a variety of skill levels and taught students on my own. Additionally, I have completed a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies at North Central University.
