My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I have worked with students from Kindergarten to 4th grade in Math.

When I was 5 years old I learned sign Language, I had a classmate who was deaf and I fell in love with the language. I went to the University of Nebrasaka-Lincoln majored in Speech Pathology and took a few sign language classes. I started interpreting in 2009 in a small town in Kimball Nebraska. I worked with a high school student while I was there. After he graduated high school I then got the opportunity to work in Scottsbluff Nebraska in an elementary school. While I was there, my passion for working with elementary students really came out. While I was there, I worked with a couple different students who were in first grade, second grade, fourth grade and eight grade. I was very emerged in tutoring students. My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I've mentored six gifted students in math in the Lincoln Public Schools. The students were in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and most of them were a year or two ahead in math.

I've been a Mentor with Lincoln Public Schools for over a year. Mentors function as one-on-one teachers for gifted students in an area of their strength. I've taught math to elementary school students (many of whom were in middle-school level math) and am also qualified as a Chinese mentor for all levels and a Social Studies mentor. I also work at the Kumon Math and Reading Center and primarily assist young students who are learning to read. In the past I have assisted Chinese students preparing for the SAT and TOEFL, and also tutored numerous subjects for high school students.
I try to find out what a student is interested in and incorporate that. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Human Resources Manager for past 10 years. A good portion of my job is involved with training. While there are differences in training/teaching adults versus young adults and children, the basics are still the same. I have volunteered in the past as religious educator for children in first, second and fourth grade. I also did some volunteer tutoring over 8 years ago in Mississippi as I was involved with the local literacy council.
I like to make teaching fun. I pride myself on my ability to add fun through puzzles, arts and crafts, etc. and teach all at the same time. It is so rewarding when a child you are working with accomplishes what they may have though to be the impossible. All children, as adults, are sponges that are wanting to absorb all that is around them. I feel that my previous experience in working with children is my resume.

After graduation I began teaching in Missouri at the middle school level for students with behavioral disorders. I taught all subjects in my classroom. After 2 years I moved to the high school level where I co-taught algebra and pre-algebra. I did this for 5 years and absolutely loved it! Although I do not have a degree in math, I am very comfortable teaching up to algebra as I did it for 5 years. I would be comfortable teaching any math subject up to the algebra level. In college I took 17 hours of Spanish and have a love for the language. I would be very comfortable tutoring beginning learners in this area as I have mastered the basic concepts of the language. In my years of tutoring, I have mostly tutored in math and Spanish.
