A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.
I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have done student teaching at the high school level in Math, specifically, Geometry and Trigonometry. I created innovative new ways to use the materials on hand to reawaken students' natural mathematical curiosity and to exemplify the concepts of the courses. I have done one semester of long term substitute work in which I taught underprivileged children Physics and Physical Science. I had to design the curriculum from the ground up because they had rotating substitutes before I took over. Beyond that, I have taught numerous and varied college labs and recitations in the UNC physics department, and I have tutored for those same classes.
