My comments on tutoring Hearing Impaired : I have a BA in American Sign Language and still use ASL to this day to communicate with friends.

I have been working with Elementary children for over 10 years now. I have helped all ages with homework, sports, and life skills (current job now as EC TA). I also have been coaching for the past five years in cheerleading and soccer, but in different age groups. I have been in the school system for the past year in a half and have worked on phonics, math, science, and life and social skills with AU students.
I like to get on the child's level and teach that way. I like to ask the children what their best way is to learn and what are some of their favorite things are so I can incorporate them into the lesson.

When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their favorite subjects) to try to encourage them to speak freely with me about what they're thinking. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience began as a tutor in college and upon graduating I taught eighth grade science, high school sciences (biology, physical and earth), community college level biology (I and II) and biotechnology. I have a MS in Biology (research/thesis and study focus in biochemistry) and have tutored students in mathematics and English. I have experience teaching exceptional children (TBI, ADD, ADHD, BD, AG or GT) and volunteered with Head Start for years.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my last year of college I chose to complete my field placement research project at an accelerated junior high school for low income families. At this school I was in charge of the after-school science club. I helped the adolescents learn aspects of science they wouldn't learn in the classroom. We also competed at a state Science Olympic competition. I was also in charge of after-school homework centers as well as a science and math tutor.
I love teaching adolescents. I think it is very fulfilling to watch a child obtain knowledge. I have a very hands-on teaching style. I like to work through all the problems and questions that the children have. I pride myself on using unique examples to explain complex problems and concepts.
