My comments on tutoring Hearing Impaired : I have a BA in American Sign Language and still use ASL to this day to communicate with friends.

I like to get on the child's level and teach that way. I like to ask the children what their best way is to learn and what are some of their favorite things are so I can incorporate them into the lesson.
I have been working with Elementary children for over 10 years now. I have helped all ages with homework, sports, and life skills (current job now as EC TA). I also have been coaching for the past five years in cheerleading and soccer, but in different age groups. I have been in the school system for the past year in a half and have worked on phonics, math, science, and life and social skills with AU students.

I have an open style to teaching. I believe that if you show someone the subject; allow them to do the task along with taking notes that they retain most of the information. I also strongly believe that the learning environment needs to be fun and enjoyable. I also give my students small test throughout the class, and then give them an exam at the end. When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their favorite subjects) to try to encourage them to speak freely with me about what they're thinking.
