I have a strong business background, with an MBA, CPA, and CIA. However, as a student at Susquehanna University, I also volunteered at least 2 days a week at a local preschool where I helped teach the students. In addition, I worked at a local elementary after-school program 2 days a week. I am currently pursuing my teaching certification through Drexel University.
While I enjoy business, working with children is my passion, hence why I am pursuing my teaching certification. I believe the best way to teach students any skill is to let them have hands on experience with it. As an example, in order to learn business skills, students need to practice the skills and understand their relevance in the real world.

Being positive facilitates healthy relationships and ensures that students are comfortable in the classroom. A solid and healthy rapport with the student breeds a sense of belonging and allows the students to open up to the teacher. After growing up with both parents in the teaching profession I received my undergraduate degree in business from the University of Delaware. After working in the field of business, I realized the business world was not for me. I felt my calling was in education, just like my parents. Every job I've ever had has been one where I teach. I had a job 3 years teaching ballroom dance, 2 years I coached T-ball, and for 4 years I've tutored math. I just recently graduated and I can't see myself not helping someone learn and love math. Math isn't a subject that everyone loves but I believe that can change with the right teacher. I'm not a tutor that gets frustrated and just tells the answer. I'm also not a person who makes things difficult to understand. With all the different teachers that I've had through my life I have picked up on a lot of their teaching techniques. I don't ever give up on someone and most of all, I love seeing the light bulb of understanding on someones face.
I graduated from a Pennsylvania Systems of Higher Education college with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. The entire time I was enrolled I was a tutor in the Math Assistant Center ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As a grad student, I am writing lots of essays which has really helped me with my English skills. I have a lot of academic experience that I would love to utilize while tutoring.
I have taught a few weapons classes and use of force classes as a security forces member in the Air Force. However, I have never taught classes on a regular basis.

Progressing regularly as a manager for a manufacturing company that demanded full and up-to-date training, I have been involved as a panel member for industry forums (PIMA), trainer for my staff in Customer Service and professional associations. A major part of my responsiblity was to create and give presentations on the industry and its technical characteristics of various grades of substrate. In addition, I have been active on boards of directors for civic and for profit organizations in guiding them toward economic viability.
Due to the lecturing I have done within the industry my style seems to be one of encouraging questions for complete understanding. There are no bad questions, only questionable answers. It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. I always value and respect people and expect the same of my students.

My teaching style is a direct, hands-on approach where I believe in using everyday scenarios to make a subject enjoyable to the student. I also believe in allowing the student to interrupt the teaching process at the moment they have a question as opposed to having the student wait until the end of the lesson and have the question leave their thought process. As the father of five children, I am teaching on a constant basis and I believe that the connection between the teacher and the student must be solid and trustworthy in order for the information to be successfully retained. I firmly believe that anyone can learn provided that the professional teaching them has the ability to read and decipher the emotions expressed by the student.

I love to share my knowledge and share my skills with others in a way to help them learn and grow. The way that I do this is by: 1) evaluate the child's skills, 2) acknowledge the child's skills and build his/her confidence as a stepping stone for future learning, 3) work to add to the current skills by adding to them. My greatest tutoring experience was teaching a mature adult man to read. I was able to improve his life by teaching him reading skills. His driving skills improved because he learned to read road signs. I also helped him build life skills such as learning how to write checks and balance his checkbook.
