My comments on tutoring Special Education : I am well-versed in Responses to Interventions and have served many special needs students during my career. I have experience in working with students daignosed with Autism, Aspberger's, Downs, ADHD, and other "labels", but I am not certified in Special Education. We can discuss your specific situation to see if I would meet your needs.

Tutoring differs from teaching in that "style" is replaced by method. Some of the methods I have used in the past are rhythm and music, neumonic devices, and of course, drill and practice. I have been told that I am gifted with presenting material in novel ways.
As mentioned in my earlier description, I have eighteen years experience as an educator. I have taught students of all ages from early childhood through college and non-traditional adult education. I believe in making learning fun and engaging by relating concepts to points of interest for the individual student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child has a different manner of obtaining and learning information and it is the instructor's duty to identify each student's learning style and to teach accordingly. Think of a key ring with all sorts of different keys on the ring. As a teacher you must try one key on the key chain at a time. Sometimes the first key will open the door to a child's success and other times it could be the fifth or seventh key. Teacher's need to be patient and work with their student's to best identify their learning styles and needs.
I currently have five years of teaching experience. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BS degree from the University of South Florida in the fall of 2005. When teaching first grade, I was responsible for educating children ages 6-8 in all of the fundamental areas. My philosophy on education is much like my philosophy on people in general. I believe in a very person-first approach to people in whatever situation I meet them, whether it be socially or educationally. Therefore, my philosophy centers around the idea that all students are unique individuals, with unique gifts, skills, talents, and styles of learning. All students, regardless of their age, need to be respected for their individuality in a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere. Such an atmosphere positively fosters the opportunity to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. As an educator, I see teaching as an opportunity for continual learning and growth.

I love to teach and believe strongly in the empowerment of education. I get along well with children and I strive to make learning fun. I feel as though my favorite way to teach, as well as my most recent experiences, is one on one with the learner, or in a small group setting.
I have been a school teacher for the past eight years. In the past five years I have taught English as a second language to small groups both in the U.S. and abroad. I have taught private Spanish lessons to adults here in North Carolina and I have taught a basic English class and a GED course at Cape Fear Community College and Brunswick Community College in the last few summers. I began my career as a special education teacher, this taught me a great deal of patience and determination.

I am the eldest of six children and tutored my brothers and sisters from kindergarten to 11th grade in all school subjects. I truly enjoy passing my knowledge on to other people.
