My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as an individual person, with their own talents and ideas. There is nothing better than when a person's face lights up, young or old, when they "get it." Knowing you have impacted a person, potentially for the rest of their life, is a reward in and of itself. The pay that comes attached to it is the bonus.

I have found a great place in teaching, especially tutoring, due to my desire to help other people. I enjoy walking students through new information and giving them a firm understanding of the concepts and facts. I believe that there is nothing outside of a students grasp. I present the information straight forward, then use analogies and metaphors to relate the information to the students on a different level, giving them a more solid comprehension of the material. I am currently a substitute teacher in the New Hanover County school system. I have 4+ years teaching in middle school and high school classes. I have prepared and taught classes during my previous career with the Federal Government to adults. My major in Biology gave me a strong background in the sciences and math. As a graduate from western Carolina University, I earned my BS in Criminal Justice in three years and am close to gaining my MS in Human Services. I have been working in the human service field as a case manager/community support worker. Although it is not thought of as a teaching job, I have had the pleasure of teaching children and adults basic skills, academic skills and assisting with homework.
