In particular, I have worked with students with receptive-language difficulties, ADHD, and oppositional behavior. In my teaching, I have tried to implement techniques that involve repetition, visual cues, and creativity to enhance students' academic performance. I believe all children want to learn. Sometimes it takes some work to find the spark that ignites the learning process. Unfortunately, a larger classroom may not be the best environment to find that spark in some kids. I've been successful with both children and adults because I have a knack for finding out what motivates them. Once I know something about how a student thinks, I can better come up with concepts that will help her or him understand the subject.
I've been teaching since I was an 18-year-old Navy Hospital Corpsman in the 1970's. I tutored math, Biology and Chemistry during undergrad and med school and helped friends with the grammar for their research papers. I'm weary of dealing with managed care and am currently a little over than a year away from getting my Masters in Education.

I would define my teaching style as hands on. If I can find a real life example of the material at hand, I will use it. I love to work on whiteboards/ chalkboards with students. This way they are out of their seat and showing me what they know. I am very willing to bend to any style of learning. Playing games, creating flashcards, repetitive drilling of information. Some students also learn better when they have oral stimulation such as chewing or sucking on candy. As long as the students learn the information and can remember it, then I am happy and confident.
