I graduate May 2009 from Simmons College with a BS in Biochemistry. My courses taken during my undergraduate career were heavily focused in the sciences. I’ve taken upper level chemistry, physics, biology, and math courses. I tutored a student in zoology for a brief period of time. I was also a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II labs. I earned a bachelors degree in Biology and went back and earned a degree in Secondary Education. I have successfully taught and coached at all levels for 20 years. I've been teaching since I was an 18-year-old Navy Hospital Corpsman in the 1970's. I tutored math, Biology and Chemistry during undergrad and med school and helped friends with the grammar for their research papers. I'm weary of dealing with managed care and am currently a little over than a year away from getting my Masters in Education.
I believe all children want to learn. Sometimes it takes some work to find the spark that ignites the learning process. Unfortunately, a larger classroom may not be the best environment to find that spark in some kids. I've been successful with both children and adults because I have a knack for finding out what motivates them. Once I know something about how a student thinks, I can better come up with concepts that will help her or him understand the subject.
