I am a Special Education teacher of thirty years. I have certifications in Learning Disabilities as well as an English certification for the Middle school level. I have experience in the general education, self contained, and Inclusion classroom settings.I have a special ability to pinpoint learning problems and understand how students learn best. I especially enjoy teaching students that are unable to read and have specific training in the area of decoding the written word.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it.
For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.

In high school I worked in the local elementary schools helping students with their homework in addition to supplementing what they learned in class with additional activities. I have also worked at Sylvan Learning Center as a Materials Manager, but I also worked with students should an instructor need to work with a student one on one. I have a BA degree in Journalism with a minor in English, and have a large amount of experience in media software such as the Adobe Suite, Final Cut Pro editing software, and professional grade video production outside of English/Grammar/Composition. A Little Bit About Me...

I am not a teacher however, I do have 3 children ages 10, 11 and 12. They are very smart and all have been on the Principals list for the past 3 years. I'm patient, kind and understanding that children often times get frustrated. I take education very seriously and I want everyone to succeed. My goal is to give back to the community and this is my way by educating our future leaders of America.
As a recent MBA graduate, I would like to apply some of the things learned during my studies into helping others in their area of weakness.
