More About This Tutor...

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : To work in the field of marine biology was my goal when in college. I traveled to Paris and enrolled at the Sorbonne University in order to prepare myself and had the intention of applying to work with Yves Jacques Cousteau. However, my studies were curtailed due to the Sorbonne's staff and students going on strike for over 4 months. I have qualified twice in SCUBA.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna, Austria for a period of 2 years and have offered ESOL instruction as a volunteer teacher at the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and with the Hernando County branches of H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P. I have given prvate English language lessons to individuals from Nepal, Brazil and Puerto Rico. From December 2011 through April 2012 I was employed by "A Quantum Leap" as aa tutor under the SES program. A Little Bit About Me...

I currently teach Biology, which can be a diffucult subject for students to learn. I try to tie real world applications into every Biology topic possible. Students always tend to comprehend and understand Biology material when teachers can relate the applications to real life.
Inspring and mentoring students is a very fufilling career for me. Teaching has always been one of life's goals every since my high school Biology teacher made a major impact in my life. After graduating from Jackson State University in 2006, I moved to Ocala, Florida to start my teaching career. Teaching high school students can sometimes be a very challening position but I would not change my teaching career for anything in the world.

I was the valedictorian of my graduating high school class and one of the top high school math and science students in the nation, but I was not always a stellar student. For instance, I received a “D” in math in the second grade. I attribute my transformation to an "A" student at least partially to my third grade teacher in whose class my math grades improved dramatically and I jumped from the lowest to the highest reading group. She helped boost my confidence, made me feel like I could actually do better, and made me excited about learning. My tutoring reflects my strong belief that achieving some or all of the latter can positively impact students' long-term learning.
I am just as comfortable tutoring students in math and science as in reading and writing. As a secondary school student, I received a number of top science honors, such as first place honors in several state scienc ... read more

I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.

A Little Bit About Me...

I want to first stress that I am only an assistant on their learning journey, not the protagonist. I will not do your child's work for them, but I will make sure that they complete their assignment, and we, as a team, complete it to the best extent possible. I know that a lot of children and adults fail as students because teachers often choose their prized pupils and disregard the rest. I think this is grossly unjust, and believe everyone has the potential for greatness.
I am a graduate of North Georgia with a passion for language and literature. I have worked on projects that have been, or will soon be, published. A Little Bit About Me...

It seems I have always been involved in education, whether through planning/implementing lesson plans, creating assessments or one-on-one work with a student. I have experience in all areas of education with all ranges of students and have learned from each one of them. All lesson plans and standards are adaptable no matter the need. I have created unique units (such as "Language of the Week") and worked with birth through age 22.
Everyone has always told me that I was born to be a teacher, that I have an innate gift to decipher what a student needs and to promote success and accomplish goals. I am patient, considerate and flexible. Learning occurs through teachable moments every day, and it is how we respond to these moments that determines our future. Student needs and learning styles vary and educational structure should be adapted to the individual needs of the student. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2001 I graduated from Coastal Carolina University with two bachelor degrees, BS in Marine Science and BS in Environmental Science. Both of these degrees required extensive studies in both math and science. While in college I tutored fellow students in science, math and English. I also was a teacher/tutor for two home schooled students in the 2005-2006 school year.
I really enjoy working with kids and helping them succeed. I am a firm believer that every child has the potential to be a great student. My teaching style is very interactive. I believe you learn more if you are involved in the process. Being the oldest of five children has given me the skills to be a great tutor. I am patient, a good listener and most of all laid back and fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is what I do. I have found that I have a skill for transferring information to children without them at times even realizing it is happening. I am not a strict disciplinarian but never allowed my classroom to get out of hand even when it was filled with 40+ students. I respect children and their differences. From that attitude I have found that I generally was also respected by most of my students. Teaching is fun. There is nothing better than when a child ‘gets it’ You can see the light go on and you know they have learned something. This requires patience and that is something I believe I have in abundance. .
I honestly did not start out to be a teacher. Teaching was a profession that my family was involved in but I never saw it as something I would be good at. I became a teacher at first out of economic necessity and then realized I was actually very good ... read more

In May of 2005, I graduated with a BA in Music from California Baptist University. Through my extensive studies and focus, I have gained a broad range of knowledge in each core subject. My students have ranged from the ages of 6 to 16 years of age. I have also been working as a substitute teacher for the past year.
As a teacher and tutor, my goal is to give children the one-on-one attention they need, while increasing their level of understanding. I believe that it is important to incorporate creativity and excitement into learning. Many children have the ability to learn difficult subjects, but lack focus. It is important to find methods that work for each student as an individual. I have a great deal of patienc ... read more

While earning my PhD in Biology, it was a requirement that I teach at least 3 Biology labs each semester. I focused on labs for Biology majors, so that I've mastered the foundation material so well, I can repeat it in my sleep! In addition, my supervision of undergraduate researchers in my lab was a form of teaching every day as we worked on research and learned the protocols. Needless to say, the completion of my dissertation refined my writing/discussion skills about science.
A great benefit to teaching so many Biology labs was working with the professors to accomadate their lecture material and create a hands-on application for my students. I found this a wonderful opportunity to take a lot of information and to synthesize it in such a fashion that students could understand a complex process in a simple way. For example, visual demostrations were a favorite of mine, where you co ... read more

My style of teaching varies from each student that I have ever had the joy of tutoring. I take my own studying skills which involve both visual and hands-on approaches and see how well it is a fit for the person I am tutoring. I know that sometimes it takes a lot of patience to grasp certain concepts or ideas, and that is a virtue that I possess. I do make the learning experience a fun one by relating it to every day life and creating activities that relay the information that is important to the student.
I have always had a passion for education whether it be while obtaining my degrees, or helping out other students with their studies. I have earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration as well as a masters in Finance. This education not only allowed me to gain the knowledge but learn to apply it. I am able to tutor not only in the sciences but also the arts. Throughout my volunteer experience in helping students of all ages with their study, I have learned to instruct students how to study successfully and get them through the areas in which they are having difficulty.
Assisting students with their study has been the most rewarding experience, which I hope to continue. I first teach the students how to study so that they are able to fully understand the material, grasp it, and be able to apply it, and not have to memorize purely for that purpose. I have been able to apply a few simple steps with the students which have proven effective and help in any subject. I love working with children and see t ... read more
