I try to remember that many students learn best with hands on experience. I also try to relate some of the theoretical concepts to real applications. (I like to answer the ? who cares about that!) I teach best, I think, by walking thru a lab as students work on lab assignments. I offer issues about the lab, offer suggestions about how to complete the lab, or asking students questions.
Graduated from Cornell University with a Master's. Have been working as an engineer for over 20 years. Have been teaching night classes in electronics at a number of colleges and universities in the Cleveland, Oh. area. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious. From there, equations can become identifiable patterns that essentially require you to simply "fill in the blanks".
