Very hands-on, active teaching style that often gets animated and exaggerated to keep engagement
I am currently a Special Education Teacher within the Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. More About This Tutor...

I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. I also like to make problems relevant. Students often complain that there is no reason to study something – math, for example. But I like to show that indeed, they use it all the time and that it can be fun. Learning should not only be effective, but enjoyable as well.
At my Ivy League college, we were taught not just facts, but how to learn. This invaluable skill has stood me well and put me in an excellent position to teach. I have continued ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As I read the example noted below, I hear an echo, YES, I too love to teach. I see myself as a mentor. Listening and watching how people learn, what they need to know and formulate the best way to establish a program to achieve their goals. Each individual possesses their way of learning that may be derived from their environment, culture, family or a combination. Whenever possible I try to use diverse medias to experience topics from various views stressing constant feedback to assure comprehension is taking place. Helping individuals advance to the next step by learning is my passion. My mantra is Inquire, Inspire, Educate.
After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Over the past year, I have tried to extend my ability to share my love and appreciation of English and literature with others. As an English/Communications major, I am very knowledgable in a variety of subjects including grammar, writing composition and reading comprehension. Last year, as President of the Writers Forum, we spent several months tutoring as part of an after school program where we helped children in Baltimore write.
For writing, usually I conduct some exercises. The level of the critique and what to say depends heavily on the age of the student. For grammar, I would either find or create my own practice materials and we could go over whatever is necessary until I've decided that the student is making improvements or the student has succeeded.

I want my students to be excited about my class, so I am always changing and molding my activities to stay current. I have a classroom that is full of colors, and ideas. More About This Tutor...

I am permanently certified in Secondary English. I have been teaching since 2001. I have also tutored for eight years. My teaching experience covers English grades seven through twelve. I have taught general English classes, honors English classes, college prep courses, special education courses, English labs, English as a Second Language, SAT Prep, and GED level classes.
The stand that I firmly take as a teacher of English Language Arts is that preconceived notions of a student's ability are left outside the door to my classroom. Every student has a different personality, a different belief system, a different home life, and a different style he/she learns best in. However, every student can learn to write and communicate clearly, and to read and appreciate literature when provided with a rich learning environment, motivation, and explanation of the purpose/learning goals behin ... read more

Throughout my teaching career, I have become accomplished in creating efficient lessons that reach diverse learners and make relevant connections to the world beyond the classroom. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have little teaching experience, I love working with all ages of people. I'm sure I would have a different approach to teaching/tutoring because I have not had any education classes or experience. I would offer a more business/economical outlook on mathmatical skills. I really like to explain and learn how these skills will apply do out daily lives and to our lives in the future.
I began to work at Regions Bank in New Albany the Summer after my Senior year of high school. While still working for the bank, I attended Ole Miss for a year, then transfered to Northeast for the next year. A Little Bit About Me...

My educational and professional experience are both concentrated on writing. More narrowly, analytical writing and legislative reporting. My experience tutoring on writing goes back to when I was part of a volunteer peer program, tutoring English as a second language students to assist them with mastering the English regents. At the collegiate level, I was a school tutor for 100-200 level liberal arts class, helping numerous students write strong papers and beat Intro to Logic. I also was a teachers assistant for Politics and Film, a political theory cross-listed grad/undergrad class. In sum, I have experience working across a wide age range and am able to accommodate a variety of learning styles, from junior high to adult levels.
My teaching style is professional, friendly, and peer to peer. I like to break things down for students and I encourage them to ask a lot of questions. I ... read more

More About This Tutor...

When I was senior high school student taking AP Biology, I tutored a freshman student and helped bring up her scores for her final exam. During my time studying at the New College of Florida, Florida's honors college, I took two semesters of a class in which I prepared and taught elementary, middle, and high school students various topics in science. As a condition of obtaining my bachelors degree for the honors program, I wrote a thesis entitled, "Photorespiration: A Wasteful Relic, or a Potentially Useful Metabolic Tool?". Additionally, I have learned extensive verbal and grammatical skills from writing research papers and studying Latin.
In order to comprehend a new concept, I believe that the student needs to view new material in a context that they can digest. I understand that different people have varying methods of comprehension, and I will work to find the best way to rela ... read more

My goal with every child is to provide an educational experience tailored to her or him, specifically. I have mastered diagnostic techniques that will determine a child's needs in terms of learning-style, ability-level, and comfort-zone. In my experience, a constructivist approach, where the student is motivated to take control of her or his learning works best in that it provides children with the tools and confidence to remember and use the material. Children have a positive learning experience when they are provided a safe learning environment, tools with which to work, and space to fit new information into their schema of stored knowledge.
As an educator, I have had the pleasure of working with urban, rural, foreign, and special-needs students. After gaining experience and education in three major regions of this country, I feel well-prepared to teach and tutor students of all ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Through my teaching experience I have found it necessary to differentiate my teaching styles in order to be an effective teacher. Most often than not I have found that being a facilitator rather than a dictator is most beneficial to learning. I have learned that if students construct their own learning experiences they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their abilities.
I have been Involved in the teaching and tutoring of academic subjects for the past 6 years of my life. I have a true passion for instilling the same love for education that I possess in my students.
