I've been teaching college and high school level mathematics for over 6 years. I have been tutoring math and sciences over a decade. I've worked as a Statistician private contractor for about a year for Hospira and Partners BHM, and I worked in math education software design for about a year as a content editor and tester.
I try to alleviate math anxiety, and introduce thoughtfulness as a way to solve problems. I teach how to understand math rather than just mimicking the behavior of the teacher. Math is about putting two and two together more than it is about learning how to add and subtract. If you would like to contact me it's probably best to call or text me as I may not see messages on here. 704 300 1027

Turning your weakness into your strength

I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"
I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

My teaching style/approach is to promote a environment-friendly setting so that student can feel at ease and not threatened or intimidated. This is in line with my philosophy of putting a premium on treating everyone with the respect and dignity they deserve. Ultimately, I strive to make each student feel they can achieve through positive feedback, encouragement, and providing hands-on assistance to the extent possible --- in short, that they can be all that they can be if they set their minds on whatever they want to achieve.
My teaching experience/background began in 1976 when I enrolled in the Teacher Corps-Peace Corps program at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX where I pursued a masters degree in secondary education (math). The program included university course work at Texas Southern University, student teaching at a local high school in Houston, and a two-year overse ... read more

I have experience in engineering which includes a solid understanding of math, calculus, statistics as well as physics. I have applied and practiced these skills in various business industries over my 12 year working career. I also have experience teaching at the under graduate level for the Measurement and Instrumentation course in the engineering program at Iowa State University.
My teaching style is to first teach the basic principles and then teach how they can be extended and used to solve problems. By helping students understand the fundamentals and problem solving techniques, they are able to think for themselves. This allows them to think more independently and solve a wider variety of problems without relying on memorization.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a substitute teacher and an aspiring full-time teacher I've been on a journey to obtain my Master's in Education. I have earned my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. While completing my undergraduate studies I was a tutor for the Omega C.H.A.M.P.S program, tutoring in mathematics. Upon graduation I assumed a position as an academic assistant in the Trio Upward Bound project. I have experience with students of all ages.
Teaching gives me a feeling of joy, and when I think back to my younger years and those days in the classroom I remember the teachers who made a difference in my life and I've always wanted to do the same. The reward I get from teaching is feeling like I've made the difference. I love to motivate and challenge students to learn, since I myslef am still a student the freshness of information and knowledge is at my fingertips.

I have a passion for teaching and have built a career of making learning fun, hands-on, and accessible to students of all ages. Every student is different, and I am very good at evaluating a student’s individual needs and tailoring my teaching style to suite him or her. I believe that it is essential to not only teach subject matter, but also to instill in students a love of learning as well as the confidence that they can learn anything if they really try. I take every opportunity to make learning hands-on and interactive. Applying subject matter to current events and students’ lives is essential to their development and appreciation of learning. My overall goal is to be a positive influence in every student’s personal and educational development.

I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. In that regard, it is my job to make sure that students understand the core concepts of the material ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have recently begun my pursuit of a Masters in Teaching (MAT). I believe my studies thus far have well prepared me and helped form the teaching strategies I have today. Between my experiences thus far as a tutor and my studies I believe everyone is capable of learning. Not everyone’s learning habits and techniques are the same, which can cause struggles when within a large group. I believe I can meet the personal needs of a student through one on one study and practice. I believe in making the subject relevant to the student and feel that practice is the best way to improve understanding.
As a student at UNC Charlotte I was also privileged to be a part of the schools track team. This experience gave me good time management skills and also gave me unique opportunities to help my fellow teammates on their math homework while away on meets. My senior year I began tutoring officially ... read more
