As a non-traditional student I gave a good deal of thought as to what career to go into. I love working with students and enjoy providing an environment that is customized based on the student's individual learning style. I believe all students have a desire to succeed, but frequently struggling students have lost touch with that part of themselves. From 1980-2008 I was employed as a Junior High Social Studies teacher in Atlantic City. Presently I am employed as an adjunct instructor at the Atlantic Cape Community College teaching World Religions and Introduction to Philosophy. In addition I serve as a writing tutor. My passion for learning has led me to receive an MA in Education from Beaver College and led me to apply to the MA program in Holocaust/Genocide Studies. I love sharing my knowledge with others and at the same time, I learn and gain alot from my students. When students come in with questions, I will first ask them what subject is it for, does the teacher give out any guidelines about the assignment, and what difficulties you have with this assignment. If it is math problem, I'll do serveral problems step-by-step with my students. Then, I'll pick a problem that was similiar to the problem that we just worked with, and ask them to do it. If they still have problems, I'll show the steps again one more time until they get it.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received my first tutoring credential in the early 1970's specializing in prep-school placement tests, college-board prep etc. While attending Grad-School (Temple University) in the mid-70's; I worked as a substitute teacher in the Arch-Diocese of Phila. on a high-school level, primarily instructing History. At seventeen I completed the Evelyn Wood speed reading course, not that that is directly relevant to my teaching style. During the past 20 yrs. I have had a credential in several states, but have tutored only on a volunteer level.
