While at the University of Tulsa I have tutored in both math and chemistry, so I have experience with those subjects in particular. Though I received a bachelors in Psychology I was also pre-med, so I was required to take several heavy science courses as well. As such I am also proficient in several biological subjects.
Generally I will try to ask questions to see which specific points a student needs assistance with and make sure they understand the material on a fundamental level. I also believe that practice and hands-on experiences teach the most, so there tends to be an emphasis on working through problems step-by-step than lecturing. Ultimately I am flexible, and can change my style and routine to accommodate the students' needs.

I firmly believe that if a subject seems incomprehensible, nine times out of ten it is the professor and NOT the intelligence of the student. Likewise, I believe lack of effort or motivation also play a significant roll when a student performs poorly. My formula for success is simple, we work through the problems together, and repeat until the student can comfortably complete the problem on their own. The only way to learn is to do, you just need someone to show you how.
After twelve semesters of college and a wide variety of courses, my college experience has left me with quite the education and still more to come. I am a Senior attending the University of Central Oklahoma pursuing a bachelor in Applied Computer Science. Teaching to me is a matter of discovering those small differences in learning style that students may not recognize and having the flexibility to offer a variety of paths to understanding. The goal is conveyance of a particular skill set through whatever means available willingness to offer different approaches of teaching tailored to a particular student's strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to ease students into unfamiliar territories with the expectation of success. I find this especially true with mathematics as many are frustrated with rote teaching mechanisms thus fostering an expectation of failure. Exploring different teaching mechanisms and allowing for various learning styles has been my most effective teaching approach.
While studying physics at the University of Texas, I was exposed to a variety of educational experiences. My course work provided me with extensive ... read more

I truly enjoy working with students. In my experience, many students get discouraged when they become confused with the content of material they are studying. I feel that in many cases, it is just as important to teach students how to learn as it is to teach what to learn; consequently, I advocate a step by step teaching method that allows the student to focus on what they do know, rather than what they do not know. As the student begins to understand each step, they become able to develop the required problem solving skills. I believe that the role of a tutor goes beyond the classroom, which is why I use a laid-back, pragmatic approach that matches my patient and easy going personality.
As a student at Oklahoma State University, I have been fortunate enough to study a vast and varied curriculum. Although I am not an official graduate of OSU, I essentially have earned all the crede ... read more
