I took a variety of classes that requried me to articulate myself through research papers, poems, lab reports, and speeches. While at UConn I volunteered with a local congregation helping non English speaking individuals learn how to speak conversational English.
I think that relating a particular subject to a student is the best way to spark their interest and draw them in as learners. Often students do not learn the significance of what they are learning therefore they disconnect themselves from the material. After that practice is absolutely necessary: repetition IS the mother of learning. For children all this has to be presented in an accessible way. I try to contextualize problems in math and science in order to make them easier for children to grasp.
