My most recent job was as a nursery caregiver at a church, where I was also a teaching assistant for Bible study. I enjoyed working with the children and trying to understand their unique learning styles. While tutoring classmates in physiology, I found it important to repeat topics, but change the context so that the student is not bored and also understands versus memorizes the material. The attributes I bring to tutoring are encouragement, focus, a positive attitude, and honesty. My enthusiasm for the material excited my fellow classmates. I enjoy seeking to understand material and receive equal pleasure when I can lead someone else to that point of comprehension. I recently graduated from Texas A&M University earning a BS in biology with a 3.75 GPA. As a graduate of a Health Science program at a competitive public university, Clemson University, I showed an understanding of many science disciplines. In the course of earning my BS in Health Sciences with a Concentration in Pre-Professional Health Studies, I became well versed in biology as well as chemistry. I have also demonstrated a passion for education as I wish to continue my own education in a masters program. I attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts in my home town. I have a skill for the Visual Arts and have had many years of Art History. I also read music and play the piano. I love working with children and students of all ages. I was a volunteer at Shriners Childrens Hospital for many years in the recreational therapy department. I was a "class teacher" at a friend's daycare part time, and I held a summer job as a lifeguard and swim instructor for many years.

After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill, I spent 8 months working at a wilderness therapy program. At this school I taught students life skills in a wilderness setting. After leaving this school, I spent the summer teaching art at a small summer camp. This past year I worked at a boarding school, located in Western North Carolina. At this school I worked with 15 and 16 year olds, tutoring and helping them with their school work and teaching week-end and extracurricular activities. This past fall I worked at a non-profit organization. I worked at an Anne Frank/Holocaust exhibit giving tours to 6th-12th grade students. I also worked for two other programs where I went into elementary and middle schools and taught students diversity and tolerance through the venue of religious and cultural differences. I am currently working on my Master's in Teaching at Western Carolina University.
