Experience Summary
I recently graduated from Texas A&M University earning a BS in biology with a 3.75 GPA. I have taken course work in many disciplines of biology as well as chemistry, biochemistry, physics, algebra, statistics, and English. The curriculum emphasized the importance of integrating concepts rather than memorizing individual points. I developed strong organizational and writing skills. I believe that the ability to articulate your thoughts concisely on paper leads to a better understanding of the material and ability to communicate with others. I have unofficially tutored fellow classmates in algebra and physiology. I was given the opportunity to tutor children grades 1-4 in a local after school program in reading, spelling, and mathematics.
Teaching Style
My most recent job was as a nursery caregiver at a church, where I was also a teaching assistant for Bible study. I enjoyed working with the children and trying to understand their unique learning styles. While tutoring classmates in physiology, I found it important to repeat topics, but change the context so that the student is not bored and also understands versus memorizes the material. The attributes I bring to tutoring are encouragement, focus, a positive attitude, and honesty. My enthusiasm for the material excited my fellow classmates. I enjoy seeking to understand material and receive equal pleasure when I can lead someone else to that point of comprehension.
