A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted to be a teacher and share my love and understanding of mathematics with everyone. In May of 2000, I was inducted into the National Mathematics Honor Society. I have taught high school math for eight years. The courses I taught ranged from basic Algebra 1 all the way to AP Calculus. I have a unique ability to explain concepts in a way that most students can understand.
I love teaching and working with students of all ages. I have tutored students from various background and abilities. I believe in students being active participants in their learning process through the use of hands-on activities and discovery lessons. My desire is to change student perception of math and create a welcoming learning environment for all of my students.

I love working with children. I believe that all children can learn, but each child learns in a different way. In order to help a student, you must find out how they learn. You also must find their passion. With this information (passion and learning style), you can help any student succeed. Many of my students have been considered as slow, but once I began working with them, I realized that they just lacked the basic skills. Coming from a family of teachers and engineers, it was no surprise that I received a BS in Civil Engineering and pursued a career that would allow me to use my engineering degree and provide an avenue to teach. Teaching and training adults in a wide variety of technical topics, some that included mathematics, was a large part of my 15 year career as a Safety Engineer.
