I would LOVE to help your child reach their potential!

I am structured yet kind. Kids need to feel a connection to their teacher in order to give 100%. I work a great deal on building community in my classroom and allowing kids to appreciate the diversity among themselves. Not all kids are going to excel in all areas. They need to value what they are really good at and share that with their peers. This also creates miniature "experts" which makes all kids feel good. Once a child feels successful; in one area it encourages them to tackle something they are less comfortable with.
I have worked as an elementary school teacher for 7 years. I have been fortunate enough to teach grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. In my experience I have found that children build confidence through small successes. My philosophy is to set maintainable goals allowing students to meet them frequently building confidence and motivation.

Math, Science & Microsoft Excel tutor

I have two technical-college degrees, I worked my way through both of them being a math tutor, and have used math and science in some way in every job I've ever held. As for my "teaching style", as everyone knows, it helps enormously just to have another person to work with, ask questions of, and generally talk things through. And since Im not a professional teacher, Im mostly a working tech--maybe I can help you see the connections between the abstract science & math the way its taught in school, and how that knowledge actually applies in the workplace (and in life.)

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I majored in Journalism, graduating summa cum laude, and my focus was in writing, studying many different styles.

I have years of experience in varying forms of educations, but my most relevant is the two years (2012-2014) I lived in South Korea, teaching elementary and middle school students in English as a foreign language at a private academy. During that time period, I also tutored two adults in conversation, vocabulary, and diction. This experience led me to the decision to pursue a Masters in teaching, and until I complete that goal, I am going to keep my skills fresh with tutoring.
I prefer a very conversational approach with my students. The style encourages mutual respect and allows me to observe more closely how the student learns. In addition, I feel learning is absorbed better when the information is couched in a story, and I believe conversation is a style of storytelling.

I am hands on. I am very parient and to not get frustrated easily. I do not have an age preference becuase I enjoy working with all age groups. I am personaly continuing with my Masters in September of this year. I cannot express how important education is to further your ability to care and provide for your family. I love working with children on this subject as well. I have taken MANY communication and diversity/ethics classes and have a firm understanding of how to approach and communicate with people on many educational and social levels. I LOVE to communicate and teach how to better communicate with others.

My style of teaching, especially with tutoring, is to find out what kind of learner my student is: tacit, oral, or verbal. Then the lesson style can be geared to that, while leading the student to become more aware of the other abilities and options. Also, it is imperative that students understand why they are learning what is being presented to them. Cause and effect leads to greater awareness and more objective, analytical, and critical thinking. The information must be timely, accurate, credible, relevant, etc. The days of going to a library and pulling volumes of texts to research substantive information has changed.
