I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter.
