I love piano and schoolwork

I have been a math, science, history, and music tutor since high school. I conduct for a church choir and have taken piano lessons for many years. I a currently taking advanced lessons with my college professor. Being a part of many organizations in high school has made college a wonderful experience thus far. My comments on tutoring Reading : Reading is taught as a natural process with grammar.

I teach a in a very relaxed, non-intimidating manner. Students are encouraged to speak and work with each other in group settings. I always determine each student's level of capability in order to teach at the appropriately. Each previous lesson is reviewed at the beginning of each class. Quizzes are given to measure students' progress, as well as student feedback to measure my teaching goals and objectives.
For the last 4 years, I have traveled to Mexico to teach. Previously, I spent three semesters teaching young adults and parents from all over the world at The Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY. I began teaching for fun over 15 years ago, giving English lessons to Latino horticultural workers during lunch. My comments on tutoring Reading : I am not trained in how to teach a young child to read, but I am trained in what to do once one has that ability!

I am a teacher that makes sure her students understand the basics, then we build on that. No one is a great writer unless he/she doesn't have an appropriate grasp of the fundamentals. It's like trying to master shooting a three point shot in basketball without knowing how to hold the ball or dribble. I have always been told by students that I am the best teacher they ever had because I don't assume they know anything. I evaluate exactly their proficiency in the subject, and tailor lessons to where they are in their understanding. Also, even though my students may be older, they still want our sessions to be fun! There's a way to make anything "fun," and I know how to do just that. A former gifted and talented instructor as well, I am very creative, so there is no "sleeping" in my sessions!

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience has taught me that all children can learn, but often in different ways. Finding the mode of learning for each student is the key. I try to find different ways to present the information until the child understands. It is also important to review and practice in order to reach the learning goal. I am a patient teacher and respectful of each student.
Most of my teaching experience has been in classrooms with students from the toddler stage through 6th grade. My favorite areas to teach are phonics, reading, and elementary math. However, in the passed five years I have tutored pre-school age through adults in many areas, and homeschooled all areas in elementary and middle school. I also taught English as a second language. I love guiding a student through some difficult or misunderstood content and getting the "ahha!" of understanding at the end.
